I opened my Co-Op account a couple of months ago when I was first looking at am IVA am I hoping I will be allowed to keep the account as the OR should have no interest. If worse comes to worse and I need an account I was gonna contact Think Banking but I see it is run by the Royal Bank Of Scotland which is one of my debtors, would this effect me opening the account with them?

If you have £240 surplus you would most likely pay £120 into an IPA.

Hi 369,

I have an Abbey Basic Account (cashcard) and have no problems with direct debits etc.

I know - I have to be very organised, I have been doing it for the past 9 months though, and have now finally been able to set up a
Co-op Cashminder Account which will be up and running soon hopefully! That will be a huge wait off of my shoulders - but if you ahvent been able to open up an account where you can do DD's then at least using Abbey is an option.

( Have just used your (Skippy13) Expenditure List on your blog - it was very useful. If you had £240 left over, how much do you pay in your IPA? )

I'd forget! I like knowing that things will be paid by DD so I don't have to worry about forgetting payments.

I pay all of my bills either straight into the creditors bank or at the post office.... so it can be done.

Thanks

It's great that they will open that account, but what about paying bills? Don't they think that bankrupts have any bills?!?!

Hello,

I went bankrupt in Nov 07 and opened up an Abbey Cash Card Account - you can get your wages paid into there.

However, the only downside is that you can not set up direct debits, or pay for things on your card in shops/over the interent etc.

But, if you just want somewhere to pay your wages into and then just deal in cash and pay for things in cash like the olden days (!!!) - then give Abbey a try.

Thanks

I don't think the Co-op are RBS. I know Think Banking are but I think the Co-op are just the Co-op.

Abbey are linked to Alliance and Leicester now, but I don't know about anyone else. They don't allow undischarged bankrupts to hold an account with them now.

OOOOH. We are with co op also (love them) but also thought i would have think banking to fall back on, didn't realize they're RBS, that puts me in trouble. if they stop this account, got nowhere else to go (all other basic accounts are linked to creditors. Does anyone know if Abbey are linked up to anyone?? Also is it true, that everyone has a right to a bank account? If not where on earth do we get our wages paid to??

Thanks guys, I want to try and stay with the Co-Op they have great banking ethics.

Edit... Oh and I get a gold star for 50 posts ;-)

Hi sueann

stick with the Co-op and see what happens at the time of your BR. If you have problems try the Abbey. Steer clear of monthly charging bank accounts if you can, they're a rip off.

Hi Sueann, I opened an account with Think Banking and RBS is one of my creditors. I did ask them when I called up and they told me the account was open to anyone and it didn't matter.
JulianDonnelly Posted - 08 July 2008 : 14:59:00
Hi Sueann,

if you go Br owing them money, it is highly unlikely they'll give you an account. Let the Co Op know in advance as they've been known to keep the account open even after your BR is publicised (and wait to hear from the OR).
