Hi, hope this is not too much of a tricky question, I was discharged from bankruptcy just over a week ago which was a great relief. My elderly mother has just gone into a nursing home, I am to be given power of attorney as she cannot manage her affairs anymore. I have had contact with a solicitor and have all the relevant forms to fill in. Apparently because of the problems with money laundering etc. all clients have to undergo an electronic identification service to confirm their identity. I am quite happy for this to be done, I have to give my passport and driving licence number, no problem with that but I also have to give my national insurance number, I am a bit worried that this bit of information will identify my bankruptcy? The solicitor is my daughter's finance's brother, neither him or his brother know about my bankruptcy and my daughter would be mortified if they found out and she is really worried about it. I could use another solicitor if need be but this one was going to do it at a considerably reduced cost and as he has already started some of the work it may look a bit odd if I switch solicitors. I wonder if you would be able to advise me on this. I have already shown my passport and a utility bill to the solicitor which he has photocopied and would have thought that would have been sufficient.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

Yes, the NI number doesn't have anything to do with the BR.

Thank you for your reply. Are you 100% sure, I would hate this to crop up? Sorry it has just been worrying me quite a bit. D

Your NI number shouldn't show that you were BR. The only way that people will find out you were BR are via a credit check, checking the Insolvency Register until you drop off or looking at the London Gazette.
