I have set my co-op account up in preparation, and asked for the basic account for people who are going BR.
I received my card today and it is a Visa Debit. Is this the correct account? I thought it would be more basic than that?

With regard to the Co-Op Visa Debit on the Cashminder account - it still uses an Electron AID.

Therefore, it will always be recognised as an Electon and declined where Electron isn't accepted.

The general rule of thumb is if the card doesn't have a Cheque Guarantee symbol (£50) or hologram (£100/£250), then it won't work in any fuel station pay@pump system.

I could go into the technical reasons why 'online' cards don't work, but I wouldn't wanna bore you lol

I think you could be right oranges. To be honest I don't like using pay at the pump, I prefer to actually pay someone!

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

32 IPA payments made, 4 to go - the end is in sight!

Onk, I'm just taking a technical guess here. Visa Electron/Debit are online cards. That is, they can only be used where the retailers system is online and checks and processes the transaction immediately. It could well be the pump doesnt work this way, as many systems have a floor limit - That is, a limit where they will not always go and get authority first. This could explain it. But then, maybe big brother has just got his eye on you lol.

I don't think that it is - as far as I know Tesco haven't amended their system yet.

does anyone know if the co op card is now working with tesco online grocery shopping. I tried about a month ago and i got a phone call the morning that shopping was due to arrive saying my card had been declined. I rang co op bank and they said everything was fine ther end so i dont know where things went wrong. i double checked i had entered all details correctly and i had. bit of a pain in the bum because i dont drive so shopping is not easy. x

That's strange as my friend has used hers to shop at Asda online.

The only problem she had was that Asda reserved the amount the shopping would cost and also took the money, meaning she had to wait for the reserved amount to 'drop off' before she could use her account again!

It is now a full visa debit card, it is Tesco online who have not updated their BIN database.

As i understand it it is still a visa electron card even though the electron is not on the card anymore. I have tried using mine online for tesco and its not allowed as its number that starts with 4508 is an electron number and not a full visa debit.

Still tesco is the only place i have not been able to use it online and its great for Ryanair as u dont get charged a booking fee like u do a visa debit card

best thing about my cashminder visa debit card is it won't let my wife use it!! thank you co-op!!
Whatamess Posted - 13 February 2010 : 20:28:22
Hi,
I also have the cashminder account with the same card, its great other than the same problem as ONK - it wont let me use the card for pay at the pump at the local asda, but can use it to pay in the kiosk - bizarre
ONK Posted - 13 February 2010 : 16:17:50
I have found them to be fab , no probs at all.

The only thing I have came across which is a little annoying is that it wont let me "pay at the pump" at petrol stations , it happens every time i put my card in , refers me to pay with my card in the kiosk ........ strange. It has always been morrisons station it has happened at so maybe its just them. Even the staff in there have said there is no reason why my card shouldnt work in the machines , never mind tho.

Hi

It used to be known as Electron, I believe.

It is now a Kosher "Visa" Debit card and I think 99% of shops etc accept it.

The bank is great I can assure you.

Good luck, Richard
