Posted - 01 March 2010 : 12:23:49 Hi - I haven 't been on this site for a long time, but thought I would leave a quick message about my experience.
After a lot of tooing and froing last year I declared bankruptcy in March 2009. I lived with my parents at the time and was massively concerned that it would affect them and their credit rating in some way. Just to reassure people, it did not affect them and continues not to. Since last March my life has changed, for the better! It was a little odd at first not worrying about money all the time! My interview was fine, all I had to do was make a third party offer on my car. For the first time in my life the money I earned was actually mine and in December 2009 I had early discharge. I don't know what would happen if I applied for credit now, but I'm not going to, I've learned my lesson!
I just wanted to say that altho it can be a tough decision to file for bankruptcy and people often feel they have failed - do not hesitate - do it now and your life will be vastly improved. I swear its the best thing I've done in a long time and have been considerably happier since! |

Posted - 02 March 2010 : 06:45:27 Thanks everyone!
It really has been a positive part of my life. I've been able to LIVE my life rather than just muddling through and worrying! I actually went on holiday last november for the first time in years! I paid for it all myself, saved my money - not on credit - a very satisfiying experience! |

Posted - 01 March 2010 : 13:22:45 Lovely post Caroline and hopefully it will be read by people going through a similar process to you last March prior to your decision to file for bankruptcy. I spend half my time explaining to people that bankruptcy is there to give you a 'fresh start' from your debt situation and not there to 'beat you over the head with a heavy object'!! Yes it is a decision which should be treated with caution, and explored fully as to the implications on the individual concerned, as every bankruptcy is different and dependant on that particular persons circumstances - but when there are no alternatives, it really should be a step taken so that the individual can get back in control of their lives
Well done, and thanks for the post, it is so nice to read the success stories, as very often it is in human nature to only state something when they are not happy...
Good luck for your debt free future! and please stay onboard, you advice and experiences will be invaluable to others contenplating the same decision

Re getting credit - oddly around august of last year I secured a mini laptop and mobile broadband contract from vodafone - not quite sure how I managed that! i do have a vodafone mobile phone contract anyway, I wondered if that had something to do with it?? |
