Posted - 06 March 2010 : 16:46:39 Hi, I was discharged from BR in January. I would like to open a basic savings account, just to put the odd few pounds in, her and there. I was told that many of the institutions won't let you do this as an ex bankrupt, one said they would not pay interest until 6 years is up. Any advice please? Thank you BR in |

Posted - 06 March 2010 : 22:13:27 Hi Almost there May be I was lucky but my Lloyds TSB deposit account was never closed down, they were one of my creditors They have even upgraded it to one that has a better interest rate. So I think it will depend on the bank. I was also discharge in Jan but unfortunately I have been give a BRU
So there is light at the end of the tunnel
  All the best

Posted - 06 March 2010 : 17:22:55 Thank you. Its amazing that so many won't let you have an account, I would have thought that they would have been glad of the custom, after all it is not as if you are borrowing money. Do you have to tell them that you have been BR when you apply? I really only want a basic account. Also, do they credit check you for this? |

The banks can pick and choose who they have as a customer and so many wont give you a savings account but some will, the yourkshire building society have often been recommended (and yes they let you keep all your interest) |
