i thought i would give the COOP a call today to discuss the likelihood of changing my COOP Cashminder account into a " normal" current account with a cheque book.
The man i spoke to asked why i had a cashminder account in the first place so i told him about my BR and i am now discharged.
His reply was they would not consider upgrading the account until 6 yrs had passed.
My response was shock!!!!!!!! it stays on your CRA file for 6 yrs but i thought they would take other things into consideration,, but he said only when it drops of the CRA file would they consider it.
I'm sure other people have successfully opened current accounts post discharge......
Any comments or experiences?????

Dave

Don't worry or know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum.(Baz Lurhman)
RevivaUK and Paul Johns helped me through it all i can't recommend them enough!!

I think Halifax consider a bank account after 3.5 years from discharge, thats what they told me on the phone when I opened my easycash account.

I agree with shelleyandrew76, why worry too much about having a cheque book Chester as they will start to be phased out over the next few years anyway.

I tried to upgrade my basic account with Nationwide (which means applying for a new account) and was declined.

Nationwide offer discharged bankruptcies a current account. I declined the offer at the time as the only difference from that to a CO-OP Cashminder account is you dont have a cheque book. Cheques are becoming the thing of the past anyway, so Im happy with CO-OP.

I was really happy with the Cashminder as well - the only reason I've changed back to the Nationwide account is because I collect the monthly charity donations at work and the chequebook comes in handy!

Hi Skippy,

Nice to see you!

I am actually content with a Co-op Cashminder - it does most of what I want...

It is a bit frustrating though - but I will not lose any sleep over it.

Regards, Richard

I'm using a Nationwide account from before my BR, and I have to say I get a bit nervous if I have to call them about anything in case they do any sort of checks!

I was told the same thing, and I think a lot of banks unfortunately have the same rules.

I don't understand it really as surely the way you run your account is more important.
