which banks open banks accounts for bankrupts? I have a very basic bank account with Natwest where my benefits are paid in. will they let me to keep it if I go to talk to them? |

Barclays are known for Closing all accounts once declared Bankrupt so you are best to wait til you have declared bankrupt and go into branch with the order from the court.

I have an account with both the Coop and Barclays. I opened my coop one pre BR as I did not owe them anything, but I only opened my barclays account after going BR, as they were on of my biggest creditors.

Not that I would have wanted an account with them after the way they treated me in the branch - the dozy mare trying to open the account shouted across to her colleague 'She's been turned down for a basic account. She's been bankrupt so is there anything else we can offer her?'
Appalling customer service, and for once in my life I was too embarrassed to complain!

In fact barclays will give you an account even if you do have debts with them, but dont open it until after the bankruptcy order to avoid any setting off |

If you don't have debts with them I'd try the Co-op or Barclays first as these are free accounts. However, if you don't have debts with RBS you may be able to keep the Natwest account so I'd look into that first.

Do you have any debts with the RBS group if so they wont let you have the account once bankrupt
You could try one of the paid for accounts such as ThinkBanking, Secure Trust Bank, Spectrum Finance Group, Clear Cash, CredECard services

Natwest may allow you to keep the account, but it's at their discretion.
The two banks that offer free banking and are bankruptcy friendly are the Co-op and Barclays.
