In the past I have posted a message about pay at the pump petrol stations - unable to pay with my co-op caashminder card , yet if i go in the kiosk my card will work in their machine to take payment. Not too much of an inconvenience.

What really annoys me is online shopping (in the last few weeks i have tried asda and tesco). All seems to go well , fill the trolley , make payment etc etc. Then the following morning comes the phonecall from the .com department. Problem with payment. Unable to process payment. This has never been due to insufficient funds. They just wont process my card.

Has anyone managed to successfully order and pay for food shopping online ? who with ?

I agreewith Charlie44, this is the retailers, not the Co-op. The card is registered as a Visa Debit with Visa, so it's down to the retailers to update their systems to accommodate this.

Asda are definitely ok, although beware that they reserve the amount when you place the order, and when it's ready to be delivered they put the payment through, meaning that 2 payments are reserved on your account. Other retailers cancel the first one, but Asda just leave it to drop off.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 30th June 2010 - it's over at last!

Usually, if you pay over the phone, they will be accepted.

Daughter is with Direct Line for her car insurance and she tried to renew online this year and couldn't. When she phoned them up there was no problem and she had an electron card.

Buckle your seat belt Dorothy, 'cos Kansas is going bye bye.

It is not the coop that is at fault. Some of the retailers have not updated their BIN databases. Until they do this it will still register as an electron with that company.

I can assure u that asda and sainsburys will both accept it online as I have used them many times with no problems so I don't understand the asda issue. Nat west are the same now, they have changed all step account cards to visa debit branding but they are still electron in disguise.

I have the same problem and it is very irritating. Although the co-op card says visa debit, I think it is still recognised as visa electron. Try paying your council tax by phone or online and it is a complete joke. They just won't accept this card. You would have thought a bank card is a bank card, but apparently not. It's fine having a cashminder account, but there are some drawbacks at times. Why on earth the co-op can't just issue a 'normal' debit card is beyond me.

i just rang co-op and they said eventhoug the card has a visa sign on it that it is still not technically a visa card and is still recognised as being an electrol card which is why supermarkets wont accept online. When i queried that others with the same account / card as me were able to order food shopping online she said they cant. I feel i was talking to a brick wall and didnt get far. Other than to be told they are looking to phase these cards out and replace them with visa debit cards (no idea when).

Just checked my card it has the visa symbol on it. I got the card a couple of month prior to BR and I have had early discharge in April. I may ring them and enquire or may go and apply for the barclay card u were saying about. At least i could try and use 1 account for saving up a little for christmas if i did that. xx

And yes I have the 'visa' card which is just an electron branded as a visa

My coop card works on Asda and Sainsburys online so not sure why u can't use asda. Tescos won't accept electron on grocery shopping and when I emailed them they said they have no intention of changing that at the mo. Annoying cause I like gettin the clubcard points!

Hi there...try barclays cashcard....you can use this online (I shop tescos online) I have never been refused....is your co op card an electront or normal visa...that could be the difference and worth asking if they can change to the non electron card of this is the case.

Downside of barclays they do not allow online banking whilst you are bankrupt, once you are discharged you can have it again once you have proved your are discharged...we didn;t have to buy a certificate for this, just took in the printed info from the insolvency website.

PS barclays cashcard also okay on pay at pump.

Hope this helps x
