my mother-in-law is being taken to court an declared bankrupt. She no longer lives in the uk.Please can you tell me if they can still make her bankrupt and what happens next.

Hi Andy

A creditor can still issue a bankruptcy petition against someone who has moved abroad.

It is a bit more complicated for the creditor to comply with the requirements of service etc, but it can still be done

Your mother in law could be made bankrupt in her absence, and if she doesn't co-operate with the OR it is probable that her discharge would be suspended
