think i may have to go bankrupt and was wondering what the OR sees as a reasonable figure for a single person in rented accommodation? Do they expect you to be living in a bedsit paying £80.00 a week or is there a higher figure?

It depends upon where you live in the country. You are not expected to live in a bedsit as I live in a 1 bedroom flat by myself.

If your rent is £1000 but a 1 bed flat in the same area averages at £500 then the OR may question your rent but if you pay £600 then there won't be a problem even if you live in accommodation that is bigger than your need i.e. living alone in a 3 bed house.

Hi Dave

the guidelines are only guidelines.

it is better to enter what you actually have. if the OR thinks that you are taking the extremes they will challenge you and more than likely request that you move into a more appropriate rental property.

regards Richard
