After taking a lot of comfort from the practical advice and reading about similar experiences on the forum. it's now our turn see the Judge tomorrow for our Bankruptcy, we both realise it's for the best, and indeed with the business debts nothing else was an option. Our practioner was a great help and told us to focus on the future, good advice of course but our real fear is finding somewhere to live.
We are quite prepared to move nationally to find a place to rent, but so far we are drawing a blank with regards to finding an agent who will work with us. I've read on the forum about stumping up 6 months in advance and having a guarantor etc, but no one so far wants to take us on. Gumtree etc hasn't yielded anything that might help re a private Landlord.
We have had a thought about getting a relative to rent a place under his name and credit score etc and then we live there. Are we opening up a can of worms if we do this?, failing that I think we'll be on the street in a cardboard box.

Hi Mike
If you want to get a relative to stand as gurantor then no problem an agent will like that, however you cannot get a relative to rent and then sublet to you as its breach of the agreement he would have with the owner |

Thanks for your reply, we hadn't considered doing that, I think the desperation is over ruling logic at the moment.
We had our meeting at the court today, the Clerk was great, didn't see a Judge as the Clerk said the procedure has changed, and didn't have to swear an oath even. The OR phone call was fine, we are seeing the OR in two weeks time. We are however getting a visit from the OR's agent to assess some eqpt we have from the business at home, with a veiw to auctioning it, only worth £400 or so.
So, all in all it went ok, other than the housing issue above things are moving forward, but still wondering about getting a relative to rent for us, is this do-able do you think?

Hi Mike
The thing with agents is they have boxes to tick and one of them unfortunately is credit score, its ironic that someone with great credit score but heavily in debt may get the property against yourself poor credit score with no debt (well soon anyway), over the years I have advised debtors to place an advert themselves in the Houses Wanted in the local paper, you can chose area and what type of property you require then you will have landlords knocking on your door, they dont always use letting agents as they take the cream from the rent anyway. That way you only have to tell a potential landlord when you have found a place that you have a poor financial past but that is all behind you now, you will cherish his property as your home and now as you are debt free his rent will be paid on time, Good Luck |
