Posted - 27 September 2010 : 10:18:37 hi there.. I have lived and worked in the UK for the last ten years. I am married to a UK citizen . I have alot of debt in my name only and have no assets . I am a US citizen and have permanant leave to remain in the country. Can I declare bankruptcy in the UK and still remain here and work and live in the uk? Thanks Jill.

the answer is yes. However because of the rise in Bankruptcy Tourism, you may find it beneficial to be clear in your documents when you came to the UK, how the UK debt built up , copy of your Leave to remain etc - just incase the judge or clerk ask to see it.
This is just a precaution but there is no problem with your application.
