The two forces local to me do check on this quite often and will discipline.
Most internal jobs with them require a credit check as well as a CRB.

changes from force to force.. proffessional standards vetting but again by checking with union or proffessional body they will give direction

Police forces require you to inform HR if you go bankrupt or have an IVA whilst employed by them and it may well impact on any applications to move department as credit checks will be carried out.
You wouldn't be allowed to apply for a job in the police (either as officer or police stsff) until three years after discharge.

doctor, vets, police officers, solicitors, MPs & "celebrities" all can have the stress of excessive debts.
more often than not a change in circumstances causes the debts to become unmanagable , Family illness, divorce, change of jobs, reduction in overtime, retirement etc.
very few jobs are actually listed in the legislation and you are not allowed to continue in the role, once bankrupt (MP, High Court judge, school govenor, IFA, solicitor) some jobs which are sensitive due to handling excessive money may have restrictions within the job spec.
I have worked with doctors, vets and police forces the best advice is to anonymously check with the local union or proffesional society.
