Hi
Does anyone know if you can get help with rent whilst in the process of repossession? We are moving out in December at that point we are expecting to be in the process of repossession. We will still only have my wages coming in unless hubby manages to secure a job (we are not holding our breathe for that one - the way things are going)
I am having a bit of a panic that we will be told we need to stay to the bitter end before they will help with the rent.
Also does anyone know how much help you get - we will have my wages 14500k but that covers all our living expenses - any excess if the OR decides - although there isnt any will be taken for an IPO.
The rent is 750 a month and I am worried we will only get maybe 400 and I do not know where we will find the difference. 750 is the going rate for the area we live in. We have got the place lined up through a friend of a friend who knows our situation and is happy to rent to us. |

Hi
Just spoken to the local council re housing allowance.(LHA)They were brilliant.
The long and the short of it is it depends on income and size of family.
In our case there are 3 of us, they will only pay an allowance based on a 2 bed property. For our area they allow 625 for 2 beds and 725 for 3 beds. You can move to 3 beds but they will only pay the 625, this will leave us 125 a month to pay. I think she said the income level they look at is 16,000 or less and that goes for all.
I have also looked on the web for LHA and there is quite a lot of info. I hope this info helps others.

Thanks Suzanne, thanks John. I guess they change the figures all the time so probably no one would be able to answer.
I will try calling the housing people and see what they say.
Will post any useful info if I get any.

like Suzanne I'm no expert in housing benefit but you would certainly not have to wait until an eviction notice has been served to apply for it.
The question is how much benefit would be received after your income is taken into consideration and I can't help you on that one I'm afraid.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the benefit system. There should be some sort of agency in your area that could answer this for you, and perhaps give you some help to get it all organised.
