Posted - 29 September 2008 : 08:24:03 Im really struggling with my explanation for BR. I feel like i need to be writing an essay......how far back should i be going.
I know this is probably an obvious question, but when i try and write it down i cant think of anything.
Also, my hubby didnt actually realise how bad things were until i started to struggle (only very recently) - am i supposed to put this or will the OR think that because we are married he should have known - oh im worrying again

Posted - 29 September 2008 : 09:34:12 Hi MW
Yes now things are much better, since going BR i am a lot less stressed, like you we only managed to pay all the debts up until the end of 2006 as we used overdrafts, then it ran out and thats when we just had to go on reduced payments to the creditors. Explain it as it was, its nothing to be ashamed about its part of life, esp now. I dont know about you but i am glad i have made this choice now rather than later as it seems its not just us manay large companies are struggling too. I informed you of my circumstances to why we got where we did as i thought it may help and its not a problem now, but at the time it was, i think that as i was only 34 when it happened it caused me to just go under as it were and i could not cope with anything but now i am a much stronger person, i take each day as it comes and i will be happy now knowing that my husband is here with me along with my 3 lovelly boys who in there own ways have been my pillar of strength. I hope that you get through yours as i have mine, being positive, i know its hard but honestly now im 8 weeks in i know i did the right thing. Im free again :-) LOL and take care mate.

Thank you very much for sharing that with me - it just goes to show how we all end up at the same place, but our paths there are so different.
I hope your feeling less stressed now and things have improved for you.

Posted - 29 September 2008 : 09:12:32 Ive had debts for years, very similar to yourself, but only really struggled when my situation changed.
I was too naive and i was only meeting my payments because i was using the overdraft and when that was up to its limit it really hit me - think borrowing peter to pay paul springs to mind !!
I have learnt a very valuable lesson, and i will never ever get debt again.

Posted - 29 September 2008 : 09:10:36 Hi i just wanted to add that on mine it was in 2005 when i had a hysterectomy and was off sick for almost a year in total as i had 12 weeks off for the op then when i went back to work for about 2 months i had severe stress and depression, so on my form i wrote exactly that, but obviously i did not write the name of the op just that i had a major op and wages were very low, thats when things started to get strained, but in 2006 it finally went wrong and we had to write to creditors to explain. I have probably put a little too much info here but i wanted to say how i wrote mine. Good luck

Posted - 29 September 2008 : 09:02:44 Hi agai,
Yeah if you think that's when your problems started, I guess. We have had huge debt for ages, but could always make the repayments till things changed last year. I guess you need to go back to when you first started to struggle to make the monthly repayments.

To be honest my circumstances changed a few years ago and i suppose it went downhill from there, feel like i have been consolidating for years :( - would you suggest thats a good place to start?

Posted - 29 September 2008 : 08:48:56 Hi moneyworries,
I struggled with this too. I could have gone back 6 years or so, explaining how I got into debt etc etc, but I was worrie they'd then want to delve that far back too! I asked on here and John advised me it's not the reasons for the DEBT they want here, but the causes of going BR. So basically, I went back to last year when our circumstances changed and it therefore became difficult to service our debts. In the end I was happy to be able to write this, as I felt it almost gave me an opportunity to explain myself to the OR before the interview etc.
Hope that makes sense!
