Hi there,

I moved overseas to Australia a year ago (I'm a permanent resident) and have debts in the UK which I have been paying each month from my UK bank accounts (which I never closed). I no longer am in paid employment and can't pay back the loans/credit cards and don't know what to do as I now live in Australia permanently.

I'm not sure which way to go.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Nik, just reading your situation and find I am in a similar position. Looking that this was back in 2008 I am hoping you resolved your problems. If so how did this all work out for you and what did you do in the end?

Hi Nik

the short answer is I doubt anyone would do this for you free of charge unless you could arrange for a relative to do it for you.

That said, if you are absolutely sure you will not be gracing these shores with your presence ever again, unless your UK debts are very large I cannot see how your UK debts would affect you on the other side of the world. They certainly won't be sending out any search parties unless the debt level is high.

Thanks Jo.
Given that I'm unemployed and can't pay back the monthly repayments then I think that would be reason enough not to be able to travel back to the UK (I don't have the money).

How can I go about getting a free Power of Attorney in the UK to arrange the BR for me?

Thanks
Nik

Hi Nikthegeek

Hi you can go BR from Australia, but you would need a reason why you couldn't return to do so yourself and you would also need to give someone Power of Attorney to act on your behalf.

Is that an option, you would also have to look into the LAW over with you too see what clauses are in force.

Take Care

Hi Nikthegreek,

I'm afraid that i cant help you as not sure on what laws apply to you, but i didn't want you to think no one was here!
You could try the helpline number which is free to callers in the uk but not sure from outside uk.
Hopefully one of the experts will respond to this posting and give you a bit more info.
Take care though
