Just a few questions as I have received some paperwork and a confirmed date for telephone appt.with OR(Nov. 19th) and again in a bit of a state.
They want the following:
Any loan or fanance agreements held - I burned them all

All bank and credit card statements for the last 12 months - I only have 8 months worth since I first wrote and told them I had financial problems - all previous statements got burnt

Wage slips for the last 3 months - no prob. as im retired

Used and unused cheque books - burnt the cheque books after sending cards (cut in half) back to creditors months ago.

Bank or credit cards still held (to be cut in half before sending) - one of them is my new co-0p cashminder card and when i opened it in Oct.they said they were ok with me going bankrupt, do I have to send this one cut in half - how would I access my pension and benefits for food. Should I phone co-0p about this or OR office?

The reasons for destroying the previous records is that I could not (physically or financially) haul a huge box of paperwork over from Spain several months ago - I put my clothes and personal stuff first. The cheque books I could not afford to post to the creditors from Spain along with the cards, so got rid of them safely by burning. I think I only have one old cheque book and card left with a bank where the account has always been in credit, and will send these of course.

I will put a cover letter explaining this in with all the documents to the OR, but will this be viewed in a bad light? I have never been in debt before in my life and not had any problems like being a liar or fraudulent. Should I phone OR first and explain? Im worried about it, didnt sleep a wink last night, what will happen to my co-op account?

Hi R,

Dont panic, i agree with Bankruptc and Tracy send what you have, keep the co-op card as you need this, send the letter explaining this to them and i am sure it will all be ok.

Dont worry about this they can get what you dont have and as long as your open and honest, then things will run along smoothly and you should not be worrying about this as the worst part is over now and you need to be able to look forward to your new debt free life.

You take care my friend and as we all say if you need us give us a shout.

Hi Useful,

Both Hubby and i had the same problems. i had at most 3 months of credit card statements. i had no loan agreements but managed to print off the 12 months bank statements. Our OR wasn't upset about this at all. i just said that i shredded everything after i had checked statements etc and that i never thought i would need them for this situation. With regards to the co-op, keep the card and let the OR know that this is where your income goes into to, and it wont be a problem. Please don't get into a panic over it all. the ORs have seen thousands of people with exactly the same issues as you and me.
Take care

You're welcome R! :-)

Our Co-op account was opened prior to BR too and we just told the OR when we spoke to them on BR day that it was our basic account, set up ready for after BR, and that was fine with them.

BR's such a hard thing to go through and it's important to have somewhere to go when something's bothering you.

Take care,

C. x

Oh thanks C, the co-0p account was opened pre-BR but they knew I had financial probs. and was going BR - they were most kind. Will phone OR on Monday to ask about the co-op card I would like to keep. Glad to know that Im not the only one without full records to provide, but you are right, I didnt know what was needed when I slung things on the fire to try and clear up safely.
I just wish it was all over with, but will post again if troubled thanks. I have had good support here and value this site very much. thanks again - R.

Hi useful,

You really don't need to worry about this. We had similar issues (we had most things, but not all). Like you plan to, we wrote a covering letter to explain what was missing and it was no problem at all. Most people who go BR have no idea in advance that it will happen to them, so do not see any need to keep these things. The OR can get hold of whatever he needs from the creditors directly.

With regards to the Co-op account, you will be able to keep this open. I would give the OR a quick ring them on Monday to explain this is your post BR account, and mention it in your covering letter too.

Please don't have sleepless nights worrying about things. There are usually people around on here, even at silly times at night, so if anything's worrying you, post on here straight away to get that peace of mind-it's what we're here for :-)

I hope that helps you a little. Try to relax a little and enjoy the rest of your weekend. :-)
