Posted - 18 November 2008 : 08:43:38 when you make the decision to go BR like we have and from yesterday cancelled all direct debits etc, therefore we will not pay anyone anymore ( except utilities ) how long does it take for it to start showing on your credit file, ? we are going to do vol rep, and dont know when we should walk away from the house, and go into rented, should we do it quickly or sit and wait until we are served our eviction notice ?
should we notify everyone that there will be no more payment as we going BR or just ignore all the demands ?
very confused

Posted - 18 November 2008 : 17:31:16 We went BR before getting rented accomodation and let me tell you, it was worse trying to get rented accomadation due to you being BR (and having to inform the letting agent) than actually going BR itself.
We wanted to move into a £800 house that had been stood empty for 2 months.
We contacted the letting agent who said we would need to pay 5 months deposit plus 1 months rent !! because we are BR. £4800.00. I laughed at them and said surely money through the books is better than an empty property.
They wouldn't budge.
One month down the line and the house is still empty, the landlord must have spoken with the letting agent as the price has now gone down to £695 per month.
Luckily one of the letting agents in our town was realistic and understood what the meaning of BR actually stands for - instead of the stereotypical bull crap that your average person naturally assumes etc.
I will, hopefully, in a couple of months and as long as the original £800 house is empty, ring the letting agent and try and speak with the management to arrange a face to face meeting. I hope they are prepared to discuss there immature outlook upon undischarged bankrupts and explain to me how a property stood with no revenue through the books is indeed, better than revenue through the books from an undischarged BR.
My advice is the same as Needafriend.
Get rented accomadation before you go BR. You will have a lot more options!

Posted - 18 November 2008 : 09:43:16 Hi Jo
I would try and get a rented place asap if you can as most landlords unless you go privately will do a credit check and obviously it will start to show after about a month.
You could wait for them to serve an eviction notice, its up to you really. If you know your gonna leave your home then i would if you can try and find somewhere before you go BR, if you are just going to wait for them to evict you then that can take a few months from now.
Really its down to you, but i would give the helpline a call and try and get a proper plan in place so that you know what you should do and how to go about it, that number is 0800 078 9367.
I would not notify anyone, they will contact you, your under no obligation to mention about the BR or the fact that your not going to make further payments, but again its up to you.
Take care
Jo x
