So I’m still here and it’s getting very close now to when I can submit my BR papers to the county court. I have the papers now and did take the advice given and have been to the court offices to check if I needed to make an appointment or just turn up on the day. It was helpful as they gave me a basic information pack that I am able to follow. So, just as soon as I get paid, in I go. However, are you able to tell me what I need to do about my bank account? I have two accounts and both are joint accounts with my wife who will not be going BR, only me! The one account we share has our wages paid directly into, the other is used just to pay some bills.

Thanks for your support
David

I’m very pleased to see others recognise the support you give.
Whilst I don’t want to keep dwelling on the subject I do have to say just how important this site has become to me and how surprised I have been to see just how quick everyone is to respond. Even more so when the last couple of days have been especially bad for me where I have been at quite a low end, which hasn’t been made any easier by Sky Credit Cards constantly ringing, even though I have called them. Anyway, the main thing I wanted to tell you is that I have set up the bank account with the coop and I found it really easy over the phone. I have also cancelled the Standing Orders, etc. Now just to have my name removed from the other accounts.

Regards
David

Hey David

Jo is being very 'shy' here....

She is absolutely FABULOUS and doesnt realise how much she does for everyone that either passes through or is a regular.

Jo you really are great and everyone on here who you have helped advised or just been a shoulder will no doubt feel the same.

You give up so much of your time and expect nothing in return....i for one think you are an amazing person.

XX

Onwards and Upwards is the way im going :-0)

I dont know all the answers but i do try my best to be there, esp when people are feeling low and feel they have no where else to turn.

You take care and do whats right for you and yours.

Keep smiling :-)

Hi david

I would do as debtrider has suggested and get it done sooner rather than later, like today.

Yes cancel the SO's and any DD's the essential ones can be set up in your new account once its opened.

The coop are very BR friendly and i have gone over to them, it is something that you need to do asap.

If utilites are coming out just get the new account open for your wife and you seperatley asap and then call the companies for the utilities and give new bank details.

Hope that helps.

Hello moonstriker

If it is only you who is going bankrupt then it is important to get your wife’s name removed from your account. I would advise closing a joint bank account if only one person is going bankrupt. Unless your bank account is with a bankrupt friendly bank like co op cashminder account then there is a good chance that the account will be frozen. Get your wife to open a bank account in her name only and get yourself a co op cashminder account and close the joints accounts or remove her name. Make sure you have money in the new accounts to pay essential living expenses and your wages are paid into the new accounts. Do this before going bankrupt.

Thanks Lol;
On each of the accounts I have a standing order to repay a monthly sum in respect of two personal loans (both in my name only). Before removing my name from the two bank accounts should I cancel the standing orders, especially as by the time they become payable again I will have submitted my BR papaerwork.
Very sorry to sound thick!!!

David

It may be worth having your name removed from your joint accounts and sooner the better.

That way your no longer liable on there and it would be in your wifes sole name.

Also it should not get froaen either.

LOL
