Posted - 20 November 2008 : 21:32:08 I was declared bankrupt in 2002 and discharged in 2006. I have been told by a high street bank that I cannot open an account unless I produce a certificate of discharge from the court which will cost me £60. Is there any bank that will not require this???

Posted - 20 November 2008 : 22:46:59 Hi
it's trial and error I'm afraid. The co-op will certainly give you a basic account without.
Posted - 20 November 2008 : 21:41:40 Maybe things have changed but last time I went through in '92 after 5 years for general things you didn't have to tell anyone, only for things like company director which was a 10 year ban (and I believe still is)
So, as far as I know having gone in 2002 you're 5+ years so you don't have to tell them anything about having been BR. Maybe it is different now but one of the experts will answer I'm sure.
