This is not so much a request for help, but more a posting of my situation in the hope it may help others as seen it asked, so hopefully people will search and find this.

I have an o2 contract, which is all paid up to date, nothing missed or outstanding, and I will have no problems paying it going forward (it's actually paid 100% by my employer through expenses). *But*, and even o2 agree this is silly, their policy is as others have found is to terminate the contract. Speaking to their collections team (I actually notified them of the bankruptcy, but it was only 2 days ago so they would have found out), they have no policy that will allow me to transfer the contract into another person, or another business entities name. Basically my employer was willing to pick it up, be it in a Directors name or the business, happy to be credit checked, the lot. But o2 cannot do this.

But, and this was volunteered to me, they can port the number over to an o2 pay go sim, which I've done today and am waiting to happen (they certainly managed to put an outgoing call barr up very quickly!), so from my perspective I won't lose the number. Also, and this is theory until tested, is the number is on Pay Go I should be able to easily port it across to another provider / contract which work will provide for me, normall they won't issue a port / PAC code until you're at the end of the contract (I had 12 months to run).

If this doesn't pan out as expected I'll update, so fingers crossed. Also, I have yet to have any bill from o2 in terms of the rest of the contract, will see what happens, and I haven't put o2 on my list as a creditor (I didn't think of them as a debt as not outstanding), so I hope that doesn't bite me, but will discuss with my OR when I get the opportunity, assuming o2 present me with a bill. Hope this helps someone

No Bill from o2 yet, but can confirm that they did port me to PayGo, and have since issued a PAC code for me to leave and port the number entirely.

If they do send a bill I hope I get it before Weds! Just got my OR interview date through, it's a face to face, but not surprised as I was self employed and trading up until last November so a little more complex than normal. Would be nice to get all tied up, but suspect am not that lucky :-)

Hi Julian,

Totally get, and respect o2's position, that's fine, it just seems a little daft that they can't transfer the account to someone else (Who they've credit scored and feel is worthy), at the least they keep the revenue.

I actually have a T-Mobile account too (Mobile Broadband Dongle) which is again paid for by work, but haven't contacted them as it's not an issue if they cancel, in fact I'm hoping they don't and even let me have one of their Solo Sim only deals (30 day contract) as the current offer for £20 pcm is same as i had on o2 but £15 pcm cheaper!

As to o2, they have issued an internal PAC code and am just waiting for the PayGo sim to kick in with my old contract number.

Hi AndyF,

Ultimately, it is down to the network provider as to whether this contract will continue. I kept my T-Mobile contract throughout my BR and indeed still have it paying monthly by direct debit.

O2 really need to get with the programme!

T-Mobile:
Far better outcome for me. Contract continues 5 months after BR (I have not mentioned anything to them though). AND I have just been and upgraded and renewed for another 18 months, got a nice phone, more minutes and a £10 reduction.
