Well, the big day came and went. Myself and wife were absolutely petrified and its been a very stressful time leading up to it. The judge couldn't have been better. We were sat for about an hour before seeing him but when we went in, he was going over our paperwork. He simply asked if we'd sought advice and we said yes - from the CAB, National Debtline, and IVA Consultant and the Official Receivers Enquiry line. He then asked if we understood the consequences as we were home owners. Again, we said yes and that we were handing the property back to the motgage company. He then said that he would sign our bankruptcy petition and we could go back to see the registrar. All in all, we were in there about 90 seconds.

Just waiting now to here from the official receiver. The sense of relief after coming out was immense for both of us. Its completely our fault, living beyond our means but not lavishly in any way, shape or form. Circumstances changed and we ended up borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, so to speak.

It truly does feel like a new day and life for us both.

Thanks all for the kind words

Got a call yesterday from the OR to schedule a telephone interview on Thursday. My wife is 1 til 2 and I'm 2 til 3. I'll be at work at the time but can go into a private office.

Dont really know what to expect despite reading up on here - seems to be a lot of mixed interviews. Good and bad. The lady sounded ok but rang me as my wife suffers from various problems. I'm presuming its because her doctor and counsellor gave us a letter to include into our petetion outlining the problems she suffers from (anxiety, depression, stress, eating disorders including a past history of bulimia and laxative abuse as well as OCD). Shes in bits and convinced we're going to prison and is already getting worked up over the interview. A friend is going to come around and sit with her.

Hi

I remember the feeling of relief when exiting the court very well. The first major hurdle is over.

Well done.

Thanks Julian

As long as my wife, 4 year old and 18 month old are together, then I'm happy. Things are less tense at home already and we're looking forward to 'starting from scratch' together - financially as well as with each other.

The posts and experiences of others on here have been a great emotional support, in what is, a very scary time.
