Hi its a while since i have been able to get to this site. I had planned to make myself bankrupt last year but have been suffering from depression, along with my cardiomyopathy AF, diabetes, hypertension, and polycystic kidney disease (lucky me!). this has meant that i have been unable to sort myself out. As a direct consequence of my health my GP has told me i cannot work anymore (I was a S/E privte hire driver) as I am not well enough to pass the medical to renew my 'badge'. Thus I ceased employment on 6/12/08 and then lost my home on the 10/12/08. My question is can i make myself bankrupt whilst of no fixed abode? I have been classed as high priority for council accomodation on medical grounds but am still waiting to get somewhere. Also I have my taxi still which is probably worth £2000 to £2500. However i need this car to get around as i have joint custody of my 8 year old son and my mother, aged 73 and in poor health, lives 170 miles away. Have there been any significant changes in the rules and regs in the last 6 months?

Hiya,

Good call! With a roof over your head it will be easier to focus and concentrate on the other issues you face.

None of us get a good nights sleep perhaps, but at least you will feel more secure if yo uknow you have a permenant base and a bed to sleep in.

Good luck

Hi,

Firstly my sympathies are with you - I know its tough for most people on this site but you do sound as if you have many issues to face.

As such my question would be why make BR one of them? its a big enough deal when things aren't too tough but considering your circumstances...

Sureley if you are of NFA then creditors can not chase, which I guess is one of the reasons most individuals go BR.

Would it not make sense to wait for a permenant address then go BR - in the meantime you face no issues of losing your transport, you can save for the fee and plan ahead as neccassary.

Please take this in the contexts its meant ie good advise - I'm in no way preaching or being patronising - but having read your post perhaps BR is something to look at later once you have dealt with issues more current?

Good luck

Tim

Hi Melanie, thanks for your reply. I am moving from friend to friend as i can at the moment, rather than getting a bed in a drug infested hostel. I also have to sleep the occasional night in the car, which sucks i can tell you. I have a postal re-direction in force from my old address. I am keen to ensure my financial decrepitude is not tagged to my mother's address where my post goes, if for no other reason than i do not live there. Her frail health would not stand up to much in the way of stress anyway. would my car be safe?

Hi there, so sorry to read about all your recent problems - there is nothing to stop you filing for bankruptcy as 'no fixed abode' however where are you 'living at the monent? cannot this address be used as your residential address for filing your petition? as your OR is going to have to have a postal address for you?
