I declared bankruptcy in May 2006 and was subsequently discharged in June 2007. I have recently been contacted by a collections agency regarding a debt incurred before my bankruptcy. I am not sure whether this debt (it's only 150 quid) was included in my bankruptcy, but if it wasn't included do I still have to pay it?
Surely in addition to my notifying the OR of my debts it's also the responsibility of the company to monitor the London Gazette, etc, to ensure they're included in the claim?
Am I right in assuming that I am not legally allowed to pay this debt because it could be seen as being preferential by other creditors? Is there a law I can quote to the agency?

I would send a copy of your bankruptcy order to the collector in question with an explanatory letter advising them that the debt was written off in view of the bankruptcy as the debt was incurred before the bankruptcy date.
In the letter include the contact details of the examiner that dealt with your case and refer them to him / her.
