I have just had a letter from HM revenue saying they are putting my code to NT for rest of tax year and will revert back to normal as of 6 April. So for 1 month I will pay NT.
Will my employer be told the reason for NT is due to bankruptcy? |

You may even find that although you've got the letter it doesn't actually happen as the new tax year starts next month - I have heard of this happening.

thanks, I work for a very small company but our HR and payroll is outsourced to a TP. Our accounts dept are two very young people who know nothing about payroll as they mucked my mat pay up every month for the past 7 months only been back at work two months. As the nt is for 1 month if asked was just going to say I paid too much during my mat leave and due a rebate, I am panicking now though, all I have done is worry myself stupid since doing the deed in Dec.
Still waiting for my second interview just want to get it out the way and put everything behind me so I can get on with life. |

You don't have to tell them. Do you work for a large company? If you do it is very likely that your paye has been farmed out to another company that specialises in doing people's tax. If this is true your Human Resources Department and/or manager or immediate colleagues would be unlikely to be informed UNLESS it was in your employment contract that they had to be. If I'm any judge I'd say that no one will notice as long as you are not in a very small company. By the way, people sometimes get a Zero tax code because a tax rebate is due. If necessary, you could indicate that you were getting a tax rebate from years ago. Or something similarly vague. But play it by ear. |

It is only for 1 month as the NT coding ccan only be for the year tax year under which you went bankrupt from 6th April it is a new tax year.

I would rather not tell them more as it is a personal matter and nothing to do with my job. As it is only one month if they asked could I say I am due a rebate?
Also why have they done it just for one month? This bankruptcy is a nightmare |
