Posted - 16 March 2009 : 22:24:50 Am going BR on Thursday and as I have not been able to get to the CAB, can someone please confirm that debts that I have outstanding in Canada can be added to my UK bankruptcy (I am British but got myself into a bit of a pickle when I lived out there a few years back)? So I have debts in both the UK and Canada and want to put them on the same petition. Am I right in thinking the Canadian debts will be written off in the same way as the UK ones so if I decide to go back over there, I will not be chased for them?

Posted - 17 March 2009 : 16:45:37 Hi there,
Not exactly sure about this, but I think you can only include debts incurred in the UK when petitioning for bankruptcy in the UK. For the debts incurred in Canada I would assume you would have to petition for these separately under the Canadian insolvency system.
I may be wrong, so hopefully one of the experts can confirm.
