Posted - 17 March 2009 : 15:18:03 I would like to go bankrupt as it seems my only option as i am thousands in debt and i am unable to work due to illness, i am only recieving benefits as an income which no where near covers my repayents. I may not return to work for a long time so i would never get rid of my debt. The only problem is that i cannot work due to my illness,I suffer from very bad anxiety attacks and really struggle to leave my own home so i could not get to court to appeal for bankruptcy, is the any way i can go bankrupt? i.e a soliciter or family memeber standing for me? any help would be great as things are really getting on top of me. yes it is possible for someone to act on your behalf provided that you could evidence via your GP that there is little alternative.
A friend or relative would need to apply for a Lasting Power of Attorney which would cost in the region of £150 to arrange.
Your nominee could then represent you in court, but I believe it is the case that unless you appear in person at your local county court, your petition would have to be presented at the High Court in London by that nominee.
