I currently pay around £50 per month for telephone/tv/broadband package with Virgin Media and I wondered if this was allowed under the £500 max for credit while bankrupt. Does this kind of contract count as 'credit' anyway. My flatmate contributes to half the bills, so really I am paying £300 per year, although the actual bill is double that.
If anyone could advise please?

Posted - 19 March 2009 : 13:13:53 Many thanks John. I have since spoke to the OR and asked her about this and she also confirmed that this is perfectly okay and that the £500 max only refers to loans and such like, not contracts for utilities, etc.

yes this kind of contract is fine as with utilities which also potentially go over the £500 for the year. The fact is that at any given time you would only owe one monthly payment. For your info Virgin couldn't care less if you are a bankrupt either as long as they are paid.

I could be wrong, but that'd be my interpreatation... no doubt an expert will be able to clarify it for us :)
