Hi,

I currently pay around £50 per month for telephone/tv/broadband package with Virgin Media and I wondered if this was allowed under the £500 max for credit while bankrupt. Does this kind of contract count as 'credit' anyway. My flatmate contributes to half the bills, so really I am paying £300 per year, although the actual bill is double that.

If anyone could advise please?

Thanks

Many thanks John. I have since spoke to the OR and asked her about this and she also confirmed that this is perfectly okay and that the £500 max only refers to loans and such like, not contracts for utilities, etc.

Hi

yes this kind of contract is fine as with utilities which also potentially go over the £500 for the year. The fact is that at any given time you would only owe one monthly payment. For your info Virgin couldn't care less if you are a bankrupt either as long as they are paid.

I think its 'acquiring more than £500 in credit' but technically you arent acquiring it unless you start a new contract?

I could be wrong, but that'd be my interpreatation... no doubt an expert will be able to clarify it for us :)
