I have recently split up with my husband and am looking at making myself bankrupt as i can't afford to make the repayments I have £17,000 worth of debt which are unsecured and work full time earning £14,500. I have a child and all the debts are in my name. Would I qualify for bankrupcy

Are there any assets such as a house? Best to have an initial interview with a solicitor about the financial arrangements of a divorce before jumping straight into bankruptcy. Also, your ex will have to provide child maintenance if he is working.

Firstly welcome to the forum
If you owe more than you own you are insolvent and you can be declared BR.
BR is however only one option in debt, have you taken advice about other options?
BR is not a decision that should be taken lightly , it may well be your best option but consider others first.
What are you left with from your income after taking off outgoings , not including debt repayments. this figure is your Disposable Income DI and that is the figure used to evaluate your options of debt management,
