Thanks for the advice,,

Unfortunately, As part of the fit and proper test, IFA and mortgage companies have previously searched my crdit file....never mind

There is no legal restriction on you applying, but some companies only take people with a clean credit file.

It all depends on whether or not the company you want to work for does a credit check - if they do then there is no point in applying, as those that do (i.e. LTSB and other high street banks or brokers) will not take you with a bad credit file. However many you may be able to get a job with an IFA's as a mortgage broker or someone else who doesn't do credit checks.

I've never worked in the Finance industry so don't know whether they would do a credit check but I can't see why your credit rating would affect your ability to do the job.

You could always be up front with any potential employers and advise during the interview stage that you were BR but are now discharged. If they tell you that this is a problem and can't hire you then chances are they would run a credit check and would have found out then that you were BR anyway.

thanks for the advice,, With regards to not declaring being a discharged bankrupt, I was more concerned that they all do credit checks, and in the case of advice, a fit and proper test, I would argue the fact I have no debt anymore, would mean I am not a risk to the company...However they may just do a credit check and thats it!! No thankyou

The following has a list of the 'banned' professions - http://www.insolvencyhelpline.co.uk/iva/i-am-a-professional-person-will-it-affect-my-position-with-an-iva.php

It does mention:

Profession: FSA Registered - Most jobs in the financial sector can become untenable if you are declared bankrupt so an IVA is preferable

Although it doesn't mention, which jobs so it's not really much help.

Once you are discharged there won't be any problem with getting a job in finance as you no longer need to declare that you are BR unless they specifically ask.

Hi

No I was made redundant, that what caused me to go br, I just read somewhere on another forum that once discharged I was able to work for a bank or financial institution. At the moment I work in a temporary job..I have only ever worked in finance so would like to get back to it.

I don't think that working in Finance is a 'banned' occupation such as an MP, Company Director, etc. and I have seen a post from someone who was BR and worked in accounting. It may depend upon the company and their work practices. Did you lose your job due to declaring BR?
