Good Evening, i am looking for advice on bankruptcy, i have been made redundant twice and now cant even claim job seekers. I have two young children etc, and cant afford the fees to pay for bankruptcy, what can i do? i have contacted my creditors, but they wont do anything. I owe approx 30k, and now cant sleep at night as worrying to much. I am looking for work, but its now been 7 months unemployed, ia mnow at wits end... please advise. |

Consumer Credit Counselling Service, see www.cccs.co.uk or ring
0800 138 1111. They're great on advice and non judgemental. If BR is the only option available they'll give you the number for their new bankruptcy department.
We've had a debt management plan with them (all fee free, unlike some of the sharks that advertise on tv) for the past year now but decided that 20 years of that was too long for our kids to go without things because of our spending and so decided BR was a drastic but shorter alternative!!

Thankyou for that. Whats cccs ? the problem is i lived abroad, and was made redundant so had to move back, so this goverment wont reconise this etc, so the time i was employed overseas, in theory went against me, as i wasnt on this goverments "records" if you know what i mean. i will get wife to check her records. Thankyou again.

Hi,
I'm by no means an expert on this as only just heading down the BR route ourselves but just wanted to check that you're definately claiming everything you're entitled to. If your wife does work over 16 hours per week then are you claiming Child Tax credit/working tax credit. If your wife is working slightly under this 16 hour threshold, is there a chance she could increase her hours so you can claim?
Have you stopped paying all non essential bills to be able to save?
If your wife isn't working the 16 hours they claim she is can you not prove this and argue your case for JSA further?
I hope you get things sorted and like gettingoutofdebt says, seek further help from an expert. We've found CCCS to be really helpful in the past. |

Thankyou for your advice. I can not claim job seekers, because my wife was working over 16hrs per week, but she isnt .. you know how the goverment work. I have asked my credtors to make me bankrupt but
they wont. I will seek further advice, thankyou again.

Is there any reason that you cannot claim job seekers i.e. you have savings, etc?
You should really speak to a professional about your issues as they will be able to assist. Contact the the CCCS, CAB or National Debtline and they will be able to go through your situation and maybe provide some assistance with the BR fee. They are extremely busy at the moment so it may take a bit of time to speak to someone.
You can also select the 'experts' link on the left hand side of the page to speak to one of the professionals that frequents this board.
If you are unable to get the money for the BR fee then, eventually, your creditors will make you BR so this may be the only option but get some professional advice as well. |
