Hi, I have just read (in the Independant) that Credit Card companies will consider the Spouse liable for debts if tehy are asecondary cardholder on an account. I went BR on 8th may mostly with c. card debts. All my C.Cards were in my name but I had second cards issued to my wife on two or three of them. I thought she was not responsible as I was the only'account holder'? I am now terrified. Can someone please advise asap? thanks steve

I think the important word here is 'secondary'. If you declare BR but your partner doesn't and there are joint debts then your partner would be liable for the debt. If the card provided to your partner was a secondary card then account is only in your name so it is your debt and would be written off in the BR.

I am not an expert... but I used to work for a credit card company and additional card holders were definately not liable for any debt on the card and could not be pursued for payment. Its not the same as a joint make account - with credit cards the additional card is issued for convenience only, they are not party to any credit agreement.

Hope this helps
