Hello everyone...

My husband and myself went to a coop branch to open a cashminder account, we told the Customer Advisor of our intention to go BR soon and said it wont be a problem. She run through the application and we were then told that the application is being referred.

Has anyone experience this? Is this a normal procedure?

Thanks again

Hello... 8 days and several phone calls still nothing... They said we are still being referred although the people I spoke with was assuring me that they dont see any probs why we wont get accepted.

I think id have the banks who charges monthly as my last option as I dont really wanna pay that much... but then again, youve got to do what youve got to do.

Will let u know how were gettin on... Thanks again!

That's an awful lot of money to spend on banking each month! I would stick with Think or Clearcash, not both - if you want a prepaid card there are cheaper ones on the market.

I think the Co-op often refer accounts, but most people seem to be accepted without any problems.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

We did exactly the same, got referred and 4/5 days later rang to check on progress and we were cleared, account opened and nothing was needed, no idea why we were refereed??

You are right worriedmummyandwife. Other than address, I don't think they make a check.

Stu - there is no way I will pay £12.50 for one bank and £9.99 a month for another card when I can get both for free.

I've better thing to do with my money.

I think the only reason they refer it is if you have not been at your address long or on the electoral register - but I could be wrong.

Im back with Thnkbanking and would recommend them over Cooperative bank anyday. I would also recommend the clearcash card as either a money management account or an account for expenses or spends like im going to use it for when I finally get a job

There is also the Clearcash card which charges £9.99 a month, or a new one coming out next month I believe from Secure Trust Banking, and I have been told that is a good one.

If the COOP account was not an option you could always try Thinkbanking, they accept everyone. Its a online account and you get a Maestro debit card but are charged £12 per month for running the account

Thanks for the reassuring replies...

Just gonna have to wait and see now I guess... We are on the electoral role so shouldnt be an issue, am just a worry freak i guess.. everything is hanging by a thread so just restless but thanks to this forum I find comfort knowing that I am not alone.

Hi

Even if Coop are a creditor they will give you an account, they gave me a cashminder account when I started an IVA They gave me an account and froZe it, but when I told them I was going BR they let me use the account, as they said Im trying to make a fresh start.

Best of luck

Hi,

This happened to me and I received a letter about 5 days later and asked to provide a copy of my passport, driving licence, etc. as proof of identity. Once I had done this I received confirmation of the account being open within about a week.

I am not too sure why some accounts are referred but it does seem to happen now and again. So long as the Co-op weren't one of your creditors you should be ok.
