I was supposed to have gone bankrupt on the 6th of july, but because my bank never sent a statement out in time, i've now got to a wait another six weeks for a court appointment! paid the bank £10 for sending me this statement, was told i would received it in 5 days - took 8 working days!
I have a halifax credit card, which i owe £1,858.82. I've not made any payments on it for abit ( had to get the ORs fee together), and now i've had a letter from their debt collectors demanding the money. I've already told halifax i intend to go bankrupt, but with no proof of it,they dont take any notice.
Should i phone these debt collectors up, and offer to make a payment when i next get paid, just to get them off my back until August 17th,when i go to court? Also,if i give them the phone number of the court, can they get confirmation of my appointment?

I never had any collectors turn up, even though they threatened. Halifax usually say that they will call on a certain date, but this usually refers to a phone call, not a personal visit.

They do call sometimes, but mostly the debt collectors are very pleasant. You do not have to pay them any money and if you tell them that you are going bankrupt they will go away and update their records.

Ignore the phone calls and letters, or change your number. If you do choose to answer them, refuse to confirm your details and they cannot continue with the calls.

I wouldn't bother to make any payments.

The won't be able to get confirmation of the court appointment and won't even try if you do give them the phone number of the court.

Selling your bill off to a debt collection agency is not a massive issue. Debt collectors don't have any more powers that a bank. They 'may' come to your door and some send a card saying that they will be coming to see you on a particular date. I had 2 collection agencies do this and neither turned up so try not to worry.

If you like you can call the debt collectors and advise them that you are declaring BR but this will probably only make things worse. I would mention this to them when they call you and then not bother answering their calls again until you are BR.

Don't make a payment to then unless you are making payments to all of your creditors otherwise this will be seen as favouritism and you could end up in trouble with the OR.
