Posted - 21 July 2009 : 20:26:41 Hello, I was told by Stockport Welfare Rights Service you can claim 35.00 per person a week for housekeeping - food. I know the insolvency site says 501.oo for a family of 4. This is an out of date guide and it needs updating as lots of things have gone up. They allow 75.00 per month for fuel - mine is 71.0o a month for gas and 70.00 a month for electric, so very outdated |

After all running a household budget changes each month as different things take priority

Posted - 18 July 2009 : 09:02:16 If I'd have been going to get ipa I would have argued that this wasn't enough but as I don't have to pay anything it wasn't worth it.I was allowed £100 for school meals and meals in work,£20 for pet food,£50 phone, £20 mobile,£20 haircuts and £20 internet, it varies from office to office, I am with the Blackpool office. |

Posted - 17 July 2009 : 09:27:05 You can claim whatever amounts you use for the gas, electric and water as you have the bills to prove the amounts. Even if the OR thinks that they are high there is nothing they can do i.e. they can't force you to change providers, use less heating, etc.

Posted - 17 July 2009 : 08:15:34 thanks for that but i do think they need to update their website as that is for 2008 and lots of things have gone up i dont see how you can have gas and elec for £75 mine gas and elec in winter months is around £150 as i live in a very old house and takes alot to heat so does this mean that i will not be aloud gas and elec ? |

Posted - 17 July 2009 : 07:54:28 The guidelines are at www.insolvency.gov.uk/DocumentLibrary/Policy/Excel/Household%20Expenditur.xls (opens up in an Excel spreadhsheet)
For a family of 4 it is £501 for housekeeping incl food and cleaning product however some people have only been allowed around £420.
You can put the school meals as a separate expense. |
