Posted - 14 August 2009 : 11:50:55 My bills each month cost in excess of £500. I am only on a wage of £840 per month and cannot afford to live offthe remainder ofmy money. My debt is around £7000. I have been struggling to keep up repayments. Am I eligible to declare bankruptcy as a last resort? |

Posted - 14 August 2009 : 12:22:36 Hi,
As you have less than £15,000 debt, you may be eligible for a Debt Relief Order.
In order to qualify, as well has having less than £15,000 debt, you should have no assets over £300 other than a car wort about £1000, you cannot own your own home or have disposable income of over £50 per month once your normal bills have been paid.
If you don't qualify for that, you could always try coming to some sort of arrangement, via a debt management plan, with your creditors.
As a last resort you can go bankrupt, but it does seem a shame when your debts are so small.
The glimmer gets brighter all the time
