Posted - 21 August 2009 : 21:41:44 I'm sure the Post Office account that is for benefits only is one of the BR friendly ones.
Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Posted - 21 August 2009 : 19:08:44 If it is for benefits, it's not a proper account as such - it is only used by DWP to pay benefits into, nothing more.
Remove any money, but I doubt the OR will be interested in it.

Posted - 21 August 2009 : 11:24:33 yeah, although the OR would have been happy for me to keep my halifax cashcard, halifax closed it anyhow. For peace of mind, get the co-op cashminder.

Posted - 21 August 2009 : 08:11:35 Hi Care 2
I am pretty sure if its the basic post office account for receipt of benefits it should be oK - but as already said, withdraw the expences that you will need for a few days as it is likely to be temporarily frozen.
My bestdecision was to open a Co-op Cashminder account - they are very BR friendly and you can pay direct debits etc from the a/c
Good luck, Richard

Posted - 21 August 2009 : 07:15:47 Is the Post Office account a 'basic' bank account? If so, it should be fine but you should be aware that it may be frozen for a few days when you declare BR so you should withdraw any money you need the day before you declare BR.
If you want to be 100% safe then you can open a Co-op Cashminder account before declaring BR and arrange for your benefits to be paid into this account. |

Posted - 20 August 2009 : 22:26:48 I would think you would be ok. The account is only used to pay benefit into.
Hopefully one of the experts will be along to confirm.
