Posted - 23 August 2009 : 22:21:06 Help needed with Online Bankruptcy
I am 88% done in completing my online bankruptcy form but need some help on some of the questions.
As my debts go back nearly 10 years with the credit cards and i have no statements that far back. When filling in the creditors info what should i put in the ‘dates obtained’ would a guesstimate do?
Also for ‘when did the debts incur’? Theres also a part where it asks me what was the debt for. Its hard to list that as my debts went on balance transfers, cash advances for general purpose use, holidays, car maintenance etc. Its hard to put that into the ‘what was the debt for’ line.
Also in the outgoings section, as am unemployed my outgoings are minimal, am just paying board with little left over at the moment but my outgoings would increase once ive found a job.

Posted - 24 August 2009 : 15:49:31 I am just about on that bit myself and like you I want to word it well. I can say that for the past year I have put a stop on my spending. No holidays, no new clothes, no visits to the theatre. Just basic living really because I knew there was a problem and that the savings wouls soon run out. Biggest problem has been the credit card interest. When you can only afford the minimum payment its so deflating when next months bill shows only a fiver coming off. Anyway good luck with it all. Hopefully I will finish mine today.

Posted - 24 August 2009 : 14:45:42 hi thanks for your reply,
am on the last bit now, am trying to do the 'cause of debt' part now and want to word it all professionally that would all help it to go in my favour as i'd been recklessly overspending even when now working but at the same time not rambling on.
what did you write for yours?

I have the same problem as all my debt is old. I am doing the forms online and they have an email service when you have questions so I asked about the dates and this was their reply 'You need to provide the dates that the debt was incurred to the best ofyour ability. As the required fields are mandatory, then you would haveto provide a date, or the form will not allow you to continue. If you are unsure of the exact date, then you may wish to default it to01 01 and then provide the correct year if at all possible. You may also wish to contact your creditors for the exact dates as they should have these on record for you' Hope this is helpful

Posted - 23 August 2009 : 22:25:07 Hi
A guesstimate of the debt is fine, as long as you can give enough details of the creditor so the OR can contact them i.e the address and reference
For the debts incurred put general purchases and explain further on your reasons for bankruptcy section
And list your outgoings as you are at the moment not how you see them in the future and not how you feel the insolvency service should see them. Make sure to list any income i.e benefits or contributions from family members etc.
Best of luck
