Hi
Ive applied and was successful at interview for a part time job at the home office I sent my police check form off and they wrote to me saying they did a financial check (I didnt consent too) and have found debts against my name, they want evidence that I have or am dealing with them.
Since I am a discharged bankrupt should I send my letter from the court/or that I have been discharged? Would this stop me from getting the job?
What would be my best course of action

I work with lots of people in the forces and the police force and to date have not had any issues with their employment.
The key thing is "has the problem been identified and is it being dealt with properly"
provided that this is the case all should be well.
perhaps there is a different view to people applying for "sensitive jobs" rather than already in employment when time & money has already been spent.

You can only wait and see.
You may be ok, but it is something to be aware of if you apply for jobs within the Home Office or places like that.

It was a scottish check they did but I didnt sign for a financial check, and im based in Liverpool, it just came as a suprise and shorly they must have seen I am discharged now, I doubt they are going to offer me a job

Can you post what eventually happens?
I do quite a bit of my work with the public sector and would be keen to know what their attitude is.
I am currently working for the Scottish Government and they just wanted basic disclosure so I didn't have to worry about the credit checks.
I have heard that it is sometimes possible to get through SC clearance whilst bankrupt, where they certainly do credit checks as part of susceptability to bribery, but a lot of it depends on whether you have been up front on the form and on the individual that picks it up...

I know that certain police forces won't employ someone who has been bankrupt or in an IVA until three years after either discharge or completion.
Don't know if the home office do the same.

Hi Stu,
Just a comment really - parts of the civil service are very precious about things like BR and maybe the Home Office will be one of the departments that are that way inclined.
You are not a criminal and that has been established with your CRB check, I assume!
It does all seem so unfair - wish you luck with it though
