Hi there,

I was recently discharged from my bankruptcy. I live in Japan, and declared myself bankrupt (via power of attorney) at the High Court in London. It was definitely the best decision for me in my situation, and now I have been automatically discharged after 1 year, with no problems.

I'm just wondering if its possible for me to get some kind of sterling bank account- Sometimes, relatives or friends send a small amount of money for the kids birthdays etc to me by cheque, but I don't know how I can bank this money. Of course I could ask them not to send in this way, but not all the family knows my financial situation, and its easier if it remains that way, really.

So, what I'm wondering is if it is possible to open a UK savings account as a non-resident, or if offshore accounts like those in the Isle of Man provided by Nationwide or other banks are likely to refuse a savings account because of my credit history.

Its a bit of an obscure question I guess, just wondering if anyone has any experience of this.

Thanks in advance
Matt
