hi, my husband and i are splitting up and i am going to open my own bank account, will this account be closed when we file for bankruptcy and reposession if it is only a basic account and we do not owe this bank anything so wont be included in the bankruptcy. thnk you so much

thankyou getting out of debt, ou are worth your weight in gold hun, think i will be on here daily for what i need to know before i file for bankruptcy, this is a terrible trying time but when people like you are about it makes it a whole lot easier. thankyou from the bottom of my heart. joanne x

If it is a basic account then there shouldn't be any reason that it is closed after BR although it may be frozen for a few days. Sometimes accounts are automatically frozen until the OR informs the bank that they don't have any interest in the account so it is worth withdrawing some money just before you declare BR to last you a week or so.

It's also worth speaking to your bank to advise you are declaring BR and seeing if keeping the account open will be an issue.

The Co-op Cashminder is probably the friendliest account for people who are BR at the moment so it may be worth opening an account with them just to be safe.
