i have been telling my ex since march when i went bankrupt that she needs to sort her bankruptcy out as there will be massive shortfall on both the mortgage and secured loan we had together on our old house, also there is a £2500 bill for a joint account we had with hsbc.

she is convinced that as i have gone bankrupt i have taken all the responsibilty and she will now not have to go bankrupt herself, im worried as baliffs have tried to contact me over the debts ( OR informed )and once they catch up with her they will be knocking on her door for money or worse taking possessions, as my 2 kids live with her i dont want them to see these sort of things as they are only 6 & 4.

Any experts could you please advise wether or not she is correct

Your ex wife really needs to take advice ASAP.

You were both liable for any joint debts, and now that you have gone bankrupt she is solely liable and the companies can take action against her to recover the debt.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Her liability to the creditors remains unaffected just because you have gone bankrupt, its just that now instead of chasing both of you they can only chase her for the whole ammount as before.
