We have been in an IVA since May 2009 and are struggling to make ends meet. we owe two months council tax and my work credit card has nearly £500 owing. We do not get paid again till the end of January. We have had financial help from both our parents but they can not keep gifting us money. We are very stressed by it all. There's about £10,000 equity in the house. We are wondering whether to persue bankruptcy, sadly this will force me out of my job as a Surveyor, I believe. Advice please? Edward

Edward,

Welcome to the website.

You can still practice as a surveyor if you do petition BR. I work closely with RICS as well as RIBA (Royal Institute of Britsh Architects), and you BR does not need to be disclosed to these professional bodies.

Gd luck with your journey.

Hi

As far as I know, you can still practice as a surveyor.

There are certain professions that you cannot practice in, such as a solicitor, accountant, financial adviser and a pub landlord. You cannot be an elected member in a local authority or an MP.

Why not have a look on the RICS website there may some FAQs there - or give them a call?

Good luck, Richard

You need to speak to your IP initially to see if they can help you with your payments.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time

Hi Edward

It would be useful to have an idea of how much debt you have, what type ( credit cards, loans, etc etc )

and then we will be able to give you some advice on the solutions available to you
