I am separated from my wife pending divorce. We have sold our house and tried to pay off as much debt as possible. I am living with my girlfriend but do not have any work at the moment. After careful consideration and advice from a specialist debt agency I fear I have no other alternative than to file for bancruptcy. I owe apx 30k, (which includes £10k borrowed from family a long time ago) They wanted me to pay of my creditors first before trying to sort them out. Will my girlfriend's income be taken into account or will there be any repercussions upon her? She is supporting me financially (and emmotionally)at the moment. I have sold my car to pay off more debts so have no further equity to realise any money from. Please advise. Worried from Wales

Hi Brendan

Hopefully the debt specialist company have helped you negotiate a full and final settlement for a reduced amount with your creditors using the money from the settlement of the house.

their will be no repo on your girlfriend, as you are not working it may be to your advantage to show some of her income to cover your expenditure. speak back to your specialist debt company they will be able to help

good luck regards Richard

Thanks for that Richard. I did have a repayment plan buy when my work finished I was unable to pay and now the bank are chasing me daily for the full amount (with interest being added daily) I think I will have to go BR as I have no way of paying the debt back but it is good to know that I won't be taking my girlfriend down with me. Thank you for your quick and valued response, Brendan
