If rather than declaring BR, you wait to see if one of your creditors does this then I believe that the costs are greater? Is it correct that the creditor concerned meets this cost in total, or would you be expected to cough up the court fees?
If a creditor declares you BR then they are liable for the whole cost. Normally only HMRC and the Council are the creditors that will declare someone BR. The rest will just threaten BR and then sell the debt to a debt collection agency.

Thanks - I gather that it is far better in most cases to declare yourself BR. Just out of interest though, can a debt collection agency make you bankrupt?
