i was made bankrupt in march since then i have quit my job and went to stay with my husband in america i plan to come back to the uk soon. a letter from the insolvency service has came to my uk house saying about giving me a early discharge. it is asking me for my income exp and household income etc. do i put that i am unemployed and give the uk household income as it is my permant residence still i am only visiting the usa?
If you are visiting the US for more than 2 weeks or so then you should update the OR/RTLU so they can get in contact with you if need be.
You will need to provide details of any income you are receiving. This is the case even if you are working in the US even though you don't plan to stay their permanently.
Hi will i get in trouble for not informing them i quit my job, i thought i only had to tell them if my income increased? Also i dont know how to give them the expenses as my family are kinda supporting me until i get on jobseekers. They wont try to take my family of husbands money will they?
The OR can't take any money from anyone other than yourself as you are the person that is BR.
You should really have told the OR that you quit your job but the OR can't tell you what to do career wise. The only time the OR may have a problem with you leaving your job is if they think you are doing it just to avoid an IPA and, even then, they would need to prove that you left your job purely to avoid the IPA.
I would write to the OR/RTLU telling them that you have left your employment due to the stress of your debts/BR and are currently in the US with your husband. Also mention that you are not receiving any JSA and being supported by your husband for the time being.
You can either leave your contact address as your UK address and advise the OR that any mail is forwarded on to you or, if you are planning to stay in the US for a couple of months, provide your US address to the OR.
With a bit of luck you will hear from the OR in 8 weeks or so (or check the Insolvency Register) that you have received your ED and can then get on with your life.
