I am applying for bankruptcy due to the loss of my job, eviction from a council property due to rent arrears and a couple of utility and credit debts. Once I am officially a bankrupt, does a local authority have a duty to house me? Or must I wait until I am discharged? Thanks in advance for your help.

Banruptcy does not affect benefit entitlement. I believe the council has a legal obligation to house you. However whether you would get any based on the fact your putting them as a creditor I don't know.

I am sure someone will answer soon.

Hi Rita,

The bankruptcy won't come into it, it will all be based on your circumstances, ie, whether you have children, whether you have a disability etc.
