UK reports fall in unemployment The number of unemployed people in the UK has fallen unexpectedly in the three months to April, official data shows.
The number of unemployed fell by 15,000 to 1,677,000 during the quarter. In May the number claiming jobseeker's allowance was down 9,300 to 880,400.
Average earnings rose by 4% on an annual basis - below forecasts - in the three months to April, compared to 4.4% in the previous three months.
The latest earnings data should allay fears over wages fuelling inflation.
Earnings growth for the period was the slowest since December, in part because Christmas bonuses were not included in the period.
Analysts had expected earnings growth to be around 4.5%.
