Hi End of Teather,

I opened my Abbey basic account the day after I went BR. Take passport, D/L and utility bills as well as a copy of your BR order.

Hi,

I couldn't get a basic account with Abbey, but instead i have a Cash Card Account - so i cannot do direct debits etc, but i can get my wages paid into it and i can withdraw my money out.

I got my account a couple of weeks after going bankrupt.

You need to take proof of ID and proof of address. Don't think you have to pay any money in as such to open it, but take a nominal fee with you just in case... although they will just take your details and an account will be set up for you in the next 10 days or so, so they prob wouldnt need any money as your account wouldnt technically exist at that point.

If you open it up before bankruptcy, there is a danger that they will freeze the account when you go bankrupt, but you can arrange with the Bank Manager and the OR to stop them freezing it.

I would go to the meeting and say that you are going to be going bankrupt and can you still get the account, otherwise you might go through it all only for it to be frozen, better to find out what their policy is first.

Hope that helps
Lisa

Hi Andrew,

It depends if you owe them any money when you go BR. If you do, the answer will be no. If not, then it's at the manager's discretion. It may well be worth a chat with your manager to see what their position would be.
