We have now stopped all payments to creditors and haved saved the money to cover moving into rented accomadation which has been agreed and we should move in 3 weeks.
Do we need to inform our creditors of the change of address as we plan to go BR within the next 2-3 months anyway which means they will not need to get hold of us?
It will also save quite a few phone calls!!
Thanks |

Hi turborat,
We didn't! We just kept going back from time to time to gather the TONNES of post! ;-)
As soon as you go BR the OR will deal with the creditors on your behalf anyway.
We went BR just under a month after moving so there wasn't much time for them to take much action against us. I'm not sure if the fact that you'll be waiting longer for your BR will make any difference, but I just wanted to share our experience.
Take care,

Hi again,
We did. We moved into rented, went BR around 3 weeks later, then sent the keys back. No particular reason though. You can send the keys back as soon as you've moved out. We were just too focussed on moving and getting ready for BR AND me returning to work that we didn't get round to it for a while.

Do we just ring the mortgage company and say we can't afford to pay anymore and that we want to send the keys back? Do we just post keys??
Sorry for the simple questions!! |

We just sent them back, recorded delivery, with a covering letter explaining, briefly. Following advice from here, we DID NOT put our new address on the letter! ;-)

We literally said something like, 'Re Account Number _________, Property Address ___________. Please accept this letter as written confirmation that I am handing back the above property to you, the Mortgage Company, as I can unfortunately no longer meet the monthly repayments. Please find enclosed the keys to the property, and please direct any further correspondance to the Official Receiver's Office, (Name of City and address of office).
Hope that helps a bit! :-)
